KATHUA: A month long training programme of 60 women on ‘Preservation and processing of Fresh fruits and Vegetables’ organised by Horticulture Department Kathua concluded on Saturday and valedictory function was organised in village Dewal of Billawar of district Kathua.
Vice Chairman, State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans (SABDK), Daljit Singh Chib (MoS) was Chief Guest on the occasion while social activist Mamta Singh wife of Deputy Chief Minister also attended the programme.
The training programme was aimed at to acquaint the women with the latest and best practices in food preservation technology to enable them enhance their farm income as well as start their own small scale food preservation units.
Speaking on the occasion, Daljit Singh Chib (MoS) said that to increase and double farmer income by 2022 it has become necessary to empower the women farmers so that they can also add to the overall farmer income and food preservation being a sunrise industry in India has huge potential of giving good returns as well as reducing farm wastage . He advised trainees to make small self help groups and start own food processing units . He said these trained ladies should also train other ladies in food preservation and involve them in such self help groups.
Mamta Singh also appreciated this step of Horticulture Department and encouraged women to set an example and motivate other women also by becoming self employed in food processing sector.
The programme was also attended by Chief Horticulture Officer, Kathua Ajeet Sharma, Chief Canning Inspector Gul Sayed , HDO Kathua Bharat Bhushan Gupta, SMS Kathua Sanjeev, Member Kisan Board Narayan Dutt , Surinder Baloria, Neeru Rajput, Reva Khajuria, Urmila Andotra and progressive farmers of Billawar.
The trainees were given certificates by Chief Guest and various inputs were also distributed by horticulture department.
