One thing which the kindhearted people of Jammu and elsewhere do not understand is the fact that coronavirus crisis and subsequent lockdown is not like the adverse situations that they faced earlier like in case of calamities, wars, several days of Bandhs and curfews, rather it is peculiar situation which is unprecedented and world has never seen something like this before. Out of emotions and due to philanthropic nature it has been observed that people in Jammu and Kashmir have started distributing ration and relief material among the needy despite strict orders of the administration invoking stringent laws to obey social distancing and disallowing citizens from performing any group activity. There is not an iota of doubt that people who are on regular basis crossing the Lakshman Rekha, drawn by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to reach out to poor, needy and destitute population are doing the same for welfare of society but the big question which arises here is whether the precautionary guidelines issued by concerned quarters are religiously been followed during these bountiful drives of distributing essentials? Looking into the news reports with pictures and on ground assessment the answer to the aforesaid question is a big no. Surely, one can say that those people who have started helping poor under the shadow of Covid-19 are doing everything with sheer goodwill but fail-safe caution is to be taken to ensure that this act in no way prove detrimental to society by way of spreading coronavirus due to ignorance. Government should act wisely in this regard and either take the initiative in its own hands or ensure that no precaution is compromised during such drives which are conceived and conducted on purely compassionate grounds. The pictures which are becoming viral on social media with regard to relief distribution by various political, social, and religious organizations besides that of individuals clearly depict that social distancing guidelines are being compromised day in day out posing great risk of contracting lethal COVID-19 contagion to those receiving the help and also to the succour providing army of sympathetic volunteers of aforesaid organizations. Thus one can conclude that during such testing times people should not only listen to their hearts but should also consult their minds before jumping the aforesaid ‘Lakshman Rekha’.
