STATE TIMES NEWS UDHAMPUR: Directorate of Tourism, Jammu in collaboration with Peace Organisation organised ‘Tawi Darshan’ at Dudu village here on Saturday. On the occasion, a grand Abhishek and Aarti of Suryaputri Tawi, the symbol of Jammu’s History culture and religious ethos, was performed. Earthen lamps were lit amidst sacred chants and aroma of mesmerising incense made everyone a part of this celestial happening. Later, a cultural programme was also presented by local artists, which thoroughly blended in the ambience of Tawi, giving everyone an experience beyond words. Dudu region, blessed with unparallel natural beauty is abundant with scenic spots, which are sure to charm and captivate the visitors. But unknown to all is the fact that Dudu is the place, from where river coming from Seoj-Kaplas is named as Tawi. The snow glacier at Seoj gives birth to this river, which flows from Dudu Basantgarh region and reaches Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Pran Singh, CEO Patnitop Development Authority Jammu said, “Tawi, also known as Suryaputri Tawi, is not only a river but also has always been revered as ocean of faith and belief by people of Jammu. Since Tawi is the lifeline of Jammu, so to create an awareness amongst people about its source besides promoting Dudu and areas like Latti, Sudhmahadev, Mantalai etc, the aforesaid event was proposed to be conducted here”. Earlier on Friday, cleanliness of entire area surrounding Tawi and its origin was undertaken by the Peace Organisation with assistance of local students. Prof Shiv Datt Nirmohi urged people to keep the river clean and give back to it its original crystal-clear looks. Prof Nirmohi has explored Jammu & Kashmir region extensively and published more than 30 books on various historical and cultural aspects of the region. As a token of respect, the Tourism Department felicitated Shiv Nirmohi for his contributions to promote culture and heritage of Jammu. Uttam Singh, Incharge Police Post Dudu; Dev Raj Bhagat, Sarpanch Dudu and Narinder Sharma, President Peace Organisation were also present on the occasion.
