JAMMU: Army is not only about fighting insurgents and guns it also offers a holistic career opportunity and a great lifestyle to those who choose to serve in the olive green.
This was the message given out to a large group of students by officers from the defence forces at the ‘Military Equipment Display’ organised by the Indian Army under the aegis of Tiger Division.
Tiger Division showcased wide range of small arms, artillery guns, armoured vehicles, communication setup and other specialist equipment which will kindle patriotic fervour and pride amongst the youth and motivate them for serving the nation.
The one-day exhibition held at University of Jammu attended by over school and college students from across the Jammu region.
“The display aims to motivate local youth of Jammu to join the army and highlight the contributions of the organisation in nation building. It will go a long way towards educating the youth about the most capable and relevant instrument of comprehensive national power,” an army officials said.
“Military display of weapons has been a methodology to not only showcase knowing ones Army, but also gives a sense of pride and faith in the custodians of national security, in the heart and minds of the local populace,” they added.
Major General Sanjay Singh, the General Officer Commanding, Tiger Division, while inaugurating this one day event, rightly brought out that such displays, besides providing exposure to people, also contributed in bringing the uniformed fraternity closer to civilians, whose faith would prompt them later, to encourage their children to take up the profession of arms as a career option.
A detailed information regarding various entry schemes to join Indian Army was also provided to the students during the display through a counseling counter.
The visiting students were excited and got a first-hand experience of weapons. A large number of army officials, government dignitaries, school, college students and local population from adjoining villages attended the event.
