SRINAGAR: Police on Sunday arrested three drug peddlers and recovered Charas from their possession.
Police in its recent action against drug dealings in Ganderbal has arrested two drug peddlers at a checkpoint near Sonamarg and seized contraband substance from their possession. Two persons identified as Abdul Haleem Sheikh, resident of Bengal Murshadabad at present Delhi and Pervaiz Ahmad Chopan, resident of Check Prang Kangan arrested for the drug offences have been taken to Police Station Sonamarg where they remain in custody.
Officers at the checkpoint have seized 700 grams of Charas from their possession.
In this regard, a case FIR No 02/2019 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Sonamarg and investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, a police party from Poonch laid a surprise Naka at Behramgala on Mughal Road and during checking and frisking, a vehicle (HR56A1717) driven by Samdeer Singh, son of Umad Singh, resident of Bella Khori District Jind State Haryana was signaled to stop for checking. During search, about 120 grams of Charas was recovered from the driver of the vehicle.
In this regard, FIR has been registered in Police Station Surankote against the driver. Investigation has been geared up to ascertain the source and other persons involved in smuggling of contrabands.
