Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future. Remember that someday, health may give place to sickness; pleasure may give place to pain; plenty may give place to poverty; love may give place to enmity, honour may give place to disgrace, strength may give place to weakness, and life may give place to death and everything will change. There is one who never changes! ‘He is unchangeable; who can oppose him? He does whatever He pleases.’ (Job 23:13).With him is no variableness. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever and he is our abba, best friend, nearest relation, and gracious saviour! His name is Jesus; his nature is love; he is the same. If we are walking humbly with him, he will be our God – and we shall be his people. Let us cultivate intimacy with him, dependence upon him, concern to please him, fear to offend him, zeal to glorify him; and it must be well with us in health and sickness, in plenty and poverty, in life and death. For he is the same, and will never turn away from doing us good.
Therefore, when it comes to true, positive, and lasting change, the only real path forward is God and his purpose for our lives. God is inviting you to change your life in incredible ways.
The first step towards meaningful change in life is this: Bible says in Ephesians 5:15, ‘Be careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise.’ Walking is something commonly done every day. It’s a metaphor here, as throughout scripture, for our manner of life – how we live.
So how do we walk as children of light? We do that by having purpose and direction in our lives and making sure that God’s purpose and direction become our purpose and direction. Proverbs 14:15 speaks of this idea. ‘Don’t be stupid and believe all you hear; be smart and know where you are headed.’ God tells us where we need to get our direction in life: ‘It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps,’ (Jeremiah10:23). He’s telling us that if we count on our own thinking, our own reasoning, our own logic, we’re going to be in trouble. If you’re serious about change, you have to make God the centre and goal of the process.
