STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Asha Kiran Welfare Society (AKWS) organised a symposium on ‘Say no to Single-use plastic’ in the premises of Government Girls Middle School, New Plot, here. Rakesh Sharma Head Master of the School was the Chief Guest. Fifteen students of different classes from two schools viz Government Girls High School and Government Girls Middle School took part in the symposium. Nisha of Government Girls High School, Divya of Government Girls Middle School and Kum Kum of Government Girls High School were adjudged first, second and third respectively. Mementos were awarded to winners while consolation prizes were presented to all participants. While speaking on the occasion, Sharma appreciated the efforts of society for regularly holding functions in the school. Dr J P Gupta, Chairman summarized the ill-effects of plastic-use, which included bad effects on cattle/ human health besides obstructing drainage systems thereby effecting overall environment. Socks and different stationary items were also distributed among all students on the occasion. Vishal Sharma, Life Member and Teacher of Government Girls Middle School acted as Stage Secretary. The programme was attended by Kamal Netar, Jaswant Mannas, Hari Chand Sharma, Vinod Kumar, Ramesh Lal, Subash Dutta, Romesh Chander Gupta and Bodh Raj.
