JAMMU: The security forces remained on their tenterhooks throughout the day across sensitive areas in and around Jammu on Tuesday. The localities where vital security installations are located also remained in a state of high alert following early morning wakeup call when alert sentry at the army gate in Domana foiled a suspected terror attack.
The incident was reported around 4.30 AM in Domana area. According to reports, two motorcycle borne youth came close to the periphery boundary wall of army camp in Domana. As the sentry signalled them to stop they fired two bullets before fleeing the spot. Soon after the entire area was cordoned off and large number of security forces rushed to the spot to track down the suspected terrorists.
SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta, DIG Jammu range Rafiq-ul-Hassan also rushed to the spot and reviewed the situation. Meanwhile, panic gripped the villagers residing close to the Cantonment and they stayed indoors till the searches were conducted.
The search and combing operation continued for several hours in densely populated areas. House to house searches were carried out by the joint teams of state police and army.
Till late evening the security forces could not trace the whereabouts of the suspected terrorists. Meanwhile, highly placed official sources claimed the army had handed over the empty cartridges to forensic team of state police to find whether any similarity existed between the ammunition used in Sunjwan terror attack by the heavily armed terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammad.
Intelligence agencies have alerted the security forces about the possibility of another group of terrorists roaming here in the city of temples. It is suspected that a large group of JeM terrorists had managed to sneak inside the Indian territory and enjoying local support of active sleeper cells. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had also clearly indicated the group which targeted Sunjwan army camp may have infiltrated some time back and enjoyed local support in the area.
