And, now it is clear that government formation in Jammu and Kashmir is not going to take place soon if one goes by PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti. There is no doubt that the demise of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the first week of last month has left a political vacuum but it has enlarged the already prevailing uncertainty on government formation. The elongated uncertainty is not good for the State and the people. If the PDP is stressing on taking ‘Agenda of Alliance’ to a logical conclusion then the party has to from the government to carry forward the agenda and in the frame of the things BJP is the alliance partner. If the equation does not work in that direction then there is no point in talking about any alliance. No government can run on promises and assurances it runs on understanding and flexibility to manage the show which at present in J and K is in deficit. Given the prevailing stalemate, does the BJP central leadership have an alternative in party’s Jammu leaders? On the other hand PDP under Mehbooba does not want to lose the advantage at home turf and is reluctant to continue with the alliance her father had cast. The stalemate is no different than the situation immediately after the 2014 Assembly elections. It took more than seven weeks for the PDP to join hands with BJP. It looks this time too Mehbooba is going to keep everyone guessing for some more time. Last time also BJP did not have any option than to wait for Kashmir sentiments to settle down. This time also the situation is same for the party. The flip-flop by PDP leaders and silence on the part of BJP has only worsened the situation with no immediate solution to the stagnant situation. One only can laugh at it and nothing else. This is when each and every occasion is taken to remind that this is a sensitive State with very volatile emotions which no other state has. Even if BJP is singing the tune of togetherness the situation is not going to improve. Here National Conference Patron Farooq Abdullah’s words of ‘dissolution of Assembly and fresh elections’ seems to be turning as ‘gospel of truth’.
