STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP), J&K Dilbag Singh on Tuesday honoured 18 outstanding sportspersons and coaches of the State with S. Rangil Singh Award for Sports Excellence for 2018-19 in a function organized at Amar Singh Club, here. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Danesh Rana was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. MLC Ashok Khajuria and Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Chander Mohan Gupta were the special guests and President Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association (JKOA) Dushyant Sharma, General Secretary JKOA, Ashutosh Sharma and President of the Volleyball Association of J&K and Treasurer JKOA, Sidharth Daluja were also present on the dias. “The Award was instituted in the year 2016 which will be a regular feature of J&K Olympic Association in addition to the other sports activities for the promotion and development of Sports in the State,” General Secretary JKOA, Ashutosh Sharma told reporters. “In the year 2016-17, 16 sportspersons were honoured from different disciplines,” he said adding that now 18 sportsmen were conferred with award for the year 2017-18. “The award carries cash award of Rs. 21,000 and Rs 15,000, besides memento and certificate respectively,” he added. Those who were honoured on the occasion include Sahil Sharma (NIS Wrestling Coach), Anil Wadhera (NIS Boxing Coach), Randhir Singh (Cricket Coach), Sohan Singh (Senior NIS Athletic Coach), Shotu Lal (State Fencing Coach), Krupali Singh (Gymnastic Coach), Riya Bakshi (Fencer), Shreya Gupta (Fencer), Amardeep Singh (Footballer), Nirmal Kumar (Mountaineering), Shivani Charak (Mountain-eering), Meenal Gupta (Chess), Hiteshwar Singh (Roll Ball/Roller Skating), Bilal Ahmed Dar (Cyclist), Palak Kour (Gymnastic), Sahil Dev Singh (Kho-Kho), Mohd Tariq (sports promoter in general and volleyball in particular from Poonch) and Satish Gupta (Table Tennis).
