10th Mahaveer Kesri Dangal held at Sumb

SAMBA: “Sports activities play important role in personality development of youth,” said Chairman Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal while inaugurating 10th Mahaveer Kesri Dangal organisd in remote belt of Sumb, here on Wednesday.
A huge number of spectators from Sumb, Goran, Samba and other adjoining villages witnessed the Dangal and appreciated the bouts played and efforts of organisers for holding this mega wrestling event.
Women wrestling was greatly applauded by the rural masses especially women folk who in thousands witnessed the event and expressed a deep sense of gratitude to the management of the event.
In his address, Zorawar Singh appreciated the Dangal Committee especially its President Pankaj Sharma Latto for arranging such mega Dangal.
He said Dangals play an important role in keeping the youth on the right track and away from drug abuse. He said if female wrestlers from Haryana can come and compete in Dangals with men then why not from J&K State.
He rued lack of proper sports policy in State due to which youth are unable to exhibit their calibre despite having capacity and talent. He further said our government should have a well planned policy for sports so that youth interested in sports can come from the ground level events.
Rahul Sambyal, Chairman Youth For Society said such type of events revive our culture and are the beautiful example of communal harmony. Moreover such events also boost the natural talents of the people and keep them fit and healthy. He also endorsed the view point of Zorawar on the well planned policy regarding sports.
About 86 bouts were played and total bout money was Rs 3.50 lakh. First bout was held between Ajay of Udhampur and Kaka from Jammu which remained tie. Second bout was between Kalu of Himachal and Sukha of Haryana in which Kalu defeated Sukha. In the third bout Murad Ali of Reasi defeated Monu from Jalandhar . But the main attraction of the Dangal was female wrestlers Ashwani and Pooja from Haryana who defeated male wrestlers of more weight and size. The wrestler Pooja from Haryana fought in three bouts and won all. She enthralled the spectators by his wrestling skills.
Others present were Chandan Dutta, Surjeet Singh, Rinku Singh, Yashpal Master Shambu Dutt, Surinder Singh and Des Raj Sharma.
