JAMMU: The management, staff and students of Nightingale Pre-school, Rehari, held their 14th Annual Sports Day function titled ‘Halla Bol- A March Towards Fitness’ at Ved Mandir.
Dr S.D Singh Jamwal, IGP Jammu was the Chief Guest while Monica Gupta fitness model body building, IBBF athlete was Guest of Honour. Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi and BJP State Vice President Yudhvir Sethi were also present.
Dr S.D Singh said sports along with academics develop children.
Instead of stressing out children alone they must be exposed to sports and other curricular activities so that their overall personality is developed, he said adding that it is very important to study but at the same time malnutrition in children doesn’t help them grow as a healthy teenager.
He said today when ample opportunities are knocking at the doorsteps and schools have come a long way in introducing sports, music, language classes, yoga, aerobics and other such activities children must not be confined to books alone.
He also said in many cases children after excelling in professional colleges have switched back to streams of their interest and done well.
Monica Gupta asked parents not to stress children out with the burden of academic at a tender age. She said children in early stages of their schooling or pre schooling should be introduced to their surroundings and taken out on visits to places of importance. In a way children must be made familiar with day to day affairs instead of burdening them with academics.
Monica Gupta said sports play a major role in lives of children and their physical growth. She said physical activities in children also ensures overall growth of brain and makes children smart enough to deal with the world. Since more and more stadiums and grounds are coming in new colonies or residential areas children must be accompanied to these places for few hours to let them indulge in physical activities that also develop their immune system, she added.
Yudhvir Sethi said Nightingale Pre-school had always laid emphases on involving children in spring activities and this fitness march titled Halla Bol is part of that sequence. He said the school management and staff keeps counselling parents about healthy diet habits and prefers that children eat healthy before coming to school for their days work and academics.
Principal of the institution, Sonia Jain laid stress on importance of sports and other activities in kids’ lives and said it is important to participate in sporting events and get up after every fall. She laid emphasis on making children stay away from mobile phones. She added that we should not make kids slaves of technology and limit their use of tablets and phones for their betterment and overall growth.
Earlier the spring event started with Yoga Drill, event races and an event races for parents of UKG. The graduation ceremony of UKG students promoted to next class was also held on the occassion. Later, Priya Sethi and Yudhvir Sethi joined by school principal presented souvenirs to all guests. They also presented mementos to the Chief Guest.
Vivek Gupta SSP Jammu, Dr. Vinod Kumar SP Jammu, DySP Varun Jindial, Secratery Ved Mandir, Suresh Pal Ji, Chanchal Sethi and other prominent citizens of the society were present on the occasion.
