LEH: President of Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh, Swami Chidanand Saraswati formally inaugurated the ‘Saving the Himalayas through Sciences and Spirituality’ at the CIBS Acharya Nagarjuna Auditorium on Tuesday in presence of a galaxy of spiritual leaders of different faith besides a large numbers of leaders from political and civil society organisations of Leh.
The three-day International Conference of the Save the Himalayas Foundation (SHF) Conference is being organised Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC) Leh with support from DLF Ltd., WWF-India, Defence Institute for High Altitude Research (DIHAR), HESCO and Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA).
Swami Chidanand Saraswati urged that a Bill must be passed in the winter session of Parliament to save and secure Ganga and all rivers of India. He is passing of such a Bill shall be the greatest homage to former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
He requested spiritual leaders of all faith to take a pledge to work together for such causes. Swami Saraswati appreciated Founder-President MIMC Bhikkhu Sanghasena for conceiving the idea of establishing Save the Himalayas Foundation (SHF) dedicated to addressing the threats faced by the Himalayas.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhikkhu Sanghasena said that the first International Conference of the Save the Himalayas Foundation was aimed at bringing together an interdisciplinary consortium of experts focusing on discussing the current threats to the Himalayas with respect to the water situation, renewable energy sources and sustainable tourism, getting an overview of the current conservation managements practices related to the Himalayas and promoting and facilitating sustainable projects for preserving the Himalayas by preparing a future road map for SHF.
Others who spoke in the inaugural day of the conference include Founder Himalayan Environment Social Conservation Organisation (HESCO) Dr Anil Joshi, Founder Divine Shakti Foundation Dr Sadhvi Bhagatwati Saraswati, Sulekha Kambhare, Member Minority Commission, Government of India, Founder Navdanya Dr Vandana Shiva; Dr Imam Umar Ahmed Iliyasi Chief Imam, All India Imam Organisation, Corps Commander, 14 Corps, Lt General S.K Upadhay, GOC, Leh Sub Area, Major General Yash Mor and Swami Vishnupad from the Art of Living Foundation, who represented Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
