SRINAGAR: A legislator, who always claims to be pro-Kashmir and beats drums for injustice and right to self-determination, is proving to be the main cause behind discrimination with the people of his constituency.
MLA Langate Sheikh Abdul Rashid (known as Er Rashid) has recommended jobs for eight people in several Sub District Hospitals against paltry amount of Rs 100 a month.
Rashid, who never fails to earn sympathy by wearing ‘Pheran’ and old clothes and raises voice against India and at times gives pro-Pakistan statements to project himself as the ‘Messiah’ has played with the sentiments of his poor and needy workers.
Rashid always hogs the ‘headlines’ by doing different political stunts whether beef ban row, human rights violations or supporting separatists to gain popularity. Ironically, this time he has been exposed of exploiting his own workers.
Documents lying with STATE TIMES reveal that the Block Medical Officer Langate has appointed a worker of Er Rashid at Sub- Centre Ranen as a part time sweeper on remuneration of Rs 100 per month, after recommendation by the MLA Langate.
The order copy reads, “As recommended by concerned MLA Langate and duly endorsed by the Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Wali Mohammad, resident of Pazlpora, Tehsil Handwara District Kupwara is hereby adjusted/appointed as part time sweeper at the rate of Rs 100 per month at Sub-Centre Ranen.” The documents accessed by the STATE TIMES reveal that there are eight persons from his constituency who were appointed as part time sweepers at the rate of Rs 100 per month at different Sub-Centres in Handwara by the Block Medical Officer, Langate on the recommendations of MLA Langate, Er Rashid.
However, in today’s expensive world, engaging people on mere Rs 100 for a month is reminiscent of the Dark Age when autocrats and kings used to engage people for their labour without paying wages and irony is that, Rashid is following the same steps by appointing his workers on only Rs 100 in order to keep workers happy.
Sheikh Abdul Rashid is a Kashmiri politician and independent Member of the Legislative Assembly, who wants to be known as a firebrand lawmaker.
Rashid joined politics in 2008 and defeated senior National Conference and People’s Democratic Party leaders Sharif Din Shariq and Muhammad Sultan Panditpuri. He also won from the same constituency in 2015. He later launched his own party, ‘Awami Ittehad Party’.
