STATE TIMES NEWSPOONCH: Shaheed Manjeet Singh Volleyball Club registered 3-1 win over Habib Club Surankote in the final clash of Shaheed Manjeet Singh Memorial Volleyball Tournament organised by District Police Poonch under Civic Action Programme at College Ground, here on Wednesday. Twelve teams of the district participated in the Tournament. The closing ceremony was attended by large number of local people and sports lovers drawn from different parts of the district. Rahul Yadav, DDC Poonch was the Chief Guest on the occasion, while Saqlain Tariq national volleyball player was the Guest of Honour. The DDC Poonch stressed upon youth to take active part in extracurricular activities besides studies and refrain from bad activities as the youths are the future of the nation. Ramesh Angral, SSP Poonch, while speaking on the occasion, paid rich tribute to DySP Manjeet Singh who attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists at Poonch town in 2003 and the martyrs of police and other security forces who laid down their precious lives for the cause of the nation.
He said that it is due to the sacrifices of the martyrs that the peace has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir. He exhorted upon the gathering especially youth to contribute for maintaining the integrity, sovereignty and communal harmony of the great democracy of the world. He said that J&K Police is committed for providing platform to the players of different games and other activities for channelising energy of the youth in a positive manner. They also appreciated the role of Mohd Tariq, Chairman Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Volleyball Club towards the youth of Poonch. Cash prizes of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 were given to winner and runners-up teams respectively, besides trophies and individual track suits were also distributed on the occasion. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Taj Mir, Rajinder Kaka, Tariq (coach), Dr. Khaleeq Anjum, Advocate Zaman, Advocate Ifthikar Bazmi and Imtiaz Salaria.
