STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The State Forest Research Institute (SFRI) J&K, Jammu in collaboration with the Department of Botany, University of Jammu organised ‘Forest Flower’ festival on theme ‘Floral Biodiversity Conservation and Innovation’ in Botanical Garden of the University of Jammu. The festival was inaugurated by Advisor to the Governor, K Vijay Kumar, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The objective of the festival was to know the floral diversity of the State and its conservation for sustainable use. The Chief Guest inspected various stalls displayed by the Departments of SFRI, Forest(T), Wild Life Protection, Environment, Ecology and Remote Sensing, Floriculture, Agricultural, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicines (IIIM), Jammu and Department of Botany, University of Jammu, and showed keen interest in the diversity of flowers of different species. O.P Sharma, Director, State Forest Research Institute (SFRI), while welcoming the Chief Guest, other dignitaries and participants, gave a brief account on floral diversity of the state and products derived from it and its linkage in providing livelihood. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest stressed upon the need of conservation of floral diversity of the State for its sustainable use besides providing livelihood to masses of the State. He emphasised upon the collaboration in the field of research amongst Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture and Forestry. The function was presided over by Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu while Dilbag Singh, Director General of Police was the Guest of Honour. Others who attended the programme included Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM, Jammu; Suresh Chugh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, J&K; P K Singh, PCCF/Director Soil and Water Conservation; B Sidhartha Kumar, PCCF/Director Environment, Ecology and Remote Sensing; Neelu Gera, Additional PCCF / Director Social Forestry Department; Suresh Kumar Gupta, Additional PCCF/ Chief Wildlife Warden; Sameer Bahrti, CCF Jammu; Samuel Changkija, CF Research; Mohinder Kr Gupta, Joint Director, SFRI; Divisional Forest Officers of SFRI, Namrata Sharma, HoD Botany, Universal of Jammu; staff of SFRI and Department of Botany along with students of the University. Besides, a number of students from Government Women Colleges, Gandhi Nagar, Parade GDC (Boys) Udhampur and National College of Purkhoo also participated in the festival. The function was also graced by S D Swantantra and A.K Singh, ex-Principal Chief Conservators of Forests, J&K. The vote of thanks was presented by Namrata Sharma, HoD Botany, University of Jammu.
