STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Former Minister and senior Congress leader, Yogesh Sawhney raised serious concern over problems being faced by people of Jammu region due to newly installed Toll Plaza at Sarore on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway. In a statement issued here on Monday, Sawhney criticised BJP Government at the Centre for aforesaid move. “Firstly, installation of the toll plaza will lead to increase in traffic. Secondly, the plan is to start three toll plazas within a distance of 120 Km, which is against the norms of National Highway Authority of India,” he added. Sawhney further stated that the plaza will also hinder achievement of objective for starting AIIMS in Jammu. “All of us very well know that AIIMS Jammu is under-construction. It will enable all poor and needy people from far flung areas such as Doda, Rajouri Poonch, Pathankot, Kishtwar, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to get quality healthcare services in Jammu. But, these tolls will put an extra burden on poor people, which is sheer injustice,” stated Sawhney. “Local people, who have to travel everyday on this road, will suffer a lot. Problems that will be caused by this toll plaza are manifold. We strongly recommend that the decision to open Sarore Toll Plaza should be revoked at the earliest,” he maintained.
