STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: On the directions of Municipal Commissioner, Mandeep Kaur, Joint Commissioner (Adm) R.S Jamwal on Saturday conducted a tour of Sabzi Mandi, Parade. During the tour Joint Commissioner (A) interacted with various fruit and vegetable vendors who put forth their issues regarding space available in Mandi and infrastructure etc. Due to the nature of working of Sabzi/Fruit Mandi, there is always a huge dump of residue that become heaps and creates unhygienic condition in and around the area. The sanitation staff also directed to maintain proper sanitation in every nook and corner. JMC undertook a cleanliness drive in Sabzi Mandi area where the choked drains were desilted. Besides this, the JMC lifted the garbage from the area on regular basis and the Market Association appreciated the working of JMC. Further, representative of Market Association highlighted one unsafe dangerous building and demanded that the building should be re-constructed as multi storey Sabzi Mandi Market, so as the space of the building should be utilised properly. Joint Commissioner (Adm) assured them that the demand will be discussed with higher authorities for the convenience of the fruit/vegetable vendors. Among others Health Officer, Chief Transport Officer, Chief Enforcement Officer, Enforcement Officer, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Sanitation Officers and other field staff of Corporation were also present. Joint Commissioner (Adm) also appealed to all the fruit/vegetable vendors to not to encroach pavements and also requested to cooperate with the sanitation staff by not using the polythene which has now become main source of nuisance besides choking the drains.
