As the nation is shocked over the death of a 7 year old boy Pradyuman on the premises of Ryan International School in Gurugram, I wonder if the society and some individual or groups are being encouraged by the system to make ‘education as a trading commodity’. Those interested in making huge profit should go to other field of enterprise and trade. Please spare education for making fast buck.
There was one more shocking incident of crime in another public school in Delhi where a security guard raped a five year old child.
Those with capital and resources are welcome to open and run school and college for imparting education. Revenue and profitability is a factor but profiteering should not be the only motive of the promoters of the school. Stop fleecing parents like blood diamond miners of Africa and some other Caribbean countries in the 19th Century.
It is said that the parents of the slain boy had argument over demand of money by the school management. It has also been established by now that the school totally neglected the security and safety aspect of its premises. There are gaping holes along the boundary wall of the school. There are no separate toilets and washrooms for the staff and the visitors.
There was a liquor shop near the school and a tobacco kiosk just by the side of the boundary of the school. Why the management of the Ryan school did not complaint to the authorities in Gurugram? And why the police and the civil administration failed to take notice of the liquor and tobacco shops near the school? It is said that some senior boys are used to consume alcohol and tobacco during school hour and even are seen present in the class rooms in a drunken state. If these reports are true then why the management did not take action against such unruly students?
Like in some European countries and in the United States of America, juvenile crime is on the rise in our country. Incidents of school students committing crime are common these days. There are provisions and rules to rusticate such juvenile delinquents from school but school managements seldom take action against the unruly students. One does not know if the crime of murder in Ryan school is the work of one of the students of the school itself. It is a matter of investigation.
Ashok the bus conductor may not be the murderer
In the criminal justice system it is said that “Let 100 criminals go unpunished but not a single innocent should be punished” In our country the revesre is true. There have been dozens of cases where innocent people spent 10 to 15 years in prison for committing no crime as the courts held that the prosecution had no case to prove. This is the reputation of our Police and Investigating Agencies.
The Haryana Police arrested Ashok Kumar, the bus conductor holding him as the killer of the boy.Within 24 hours the Police got a confessional statement from the Bus Conductor that he had killed the boy. If one has seen the visual of Ashok Kumar coming out of the courtroom one noticed that he was not able to even walk. He was limping. He must have been beaten black and blue by the Police to obtain confession by using third degree methods.
It is being said that Padyuman was dropped by his father in the school. At that time the bus in which Ashok was the conductor had not even reached the school.
The bereaved mother of Pradyuman refuses to believe that the Bus conductor is the killer. Even some students of the school have said that Ashok Bhaiya is good man, He cannot kill.
Weeping mother of Pradyuman says, “Ashok Kumar has not killed my son. He is being made the scape goat (Bali ka Bakara ) by the Police.
It is possible that some staff of the school who might be habitual offender are involved in the crime.
Increase the Vigil
It is high time the government in the Sates and at the Centre and also the CBSC (Central Board of Secondary Education) and the ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) should lay down criteria before granting affiliation to schools and even for the present schoold affiliated to the two Boards to have “watch and Ward Staff” in good number on the school campus. The watch and ward staff of the school should be properly trained and they should be constantly monitoring activities on the campus during the school hours. In case of residential schoold, the watch and ward staff should be deployed to keep vigil even after the school hours.
Supreme Court Steps In
The Supreme Court of India on September 11 has asked the Centre and the CBI inquiry into the murder of his son.
