STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Regional Transports Officer (RTO), Jammu on Wednesday advised all the school management to have their own fleet of school buses/hire buses with safety norms as per the directions of Supreme Court within a period of three months failing which the department will be constrained to seize the vehicles and school will be responsible for ferrying of the children from their home address to school. “It has been observed that a number of school vans are plying with different schools for ferrying the students from their home address to their schools and that the students being ferried in these vans/Tata magic/auto are more than the actual sitting capacity of their vehicles and the safety of the students is also compromised,” RTO said in a order issued today. “Many times these vans/other non permitted vehicles have been compounded/seized by the department, but still this practice is going on,” he said adding that directions of Supreme Court of India are explicit to have the safety norms in the school buses. Therefore, he said, all the school management are advised to have their own fleet of school buses/hire buses with safety norms as per the directions of Supreme Court within a period of three months failing which the department will be constrained to seize the vehicles and school will be responsible for ferrying of the children from their home address to school.
