STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir unit of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has set itself a target of expanding its base in the border areas of Rajouri and Poonch besides hilly districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban to counter growing influence of Kashmir based separatists and Jihadi elements in the region. Though RSS units are already working on ground zero in these areas yet after carefully observing the pattern how young minds were being coerced and radicalised by a section of Kashmir based fundamentalists, RSS too has geared up its entire machinery to do some course correction. To guide the State level RSS workers, senior ideologue and All-India Prachar Pramukh M. G Vaidya chaired a closed door meeting at Veer Bhawan Complex of RSS on Monday afternoon. Besides senior RSS office bearers, Deputy Chief Minister Prof Nirmal Singh, State BJP Chief Sat Sharma, BJP MP’s Shamsher Singh Manhas and Jugal Kishore Sharma, party General Secretary Organisation Ashok Koul, RSS State General Secretary (Prant Karyavah), Parshotam Dedeechi and others attended the meeting. The meeting took place around the same time when voting for the crucial Legislative Council seats was going on in the Civil Secretariat complex. During the meeting, MG Vaidya gave a detailed presentation to the State BJP leaders and guided them to rope in and motivate large number of youngsters by introducing them to the culture of attending Sangh Shakhas. Vaidya directed the RSS Karyakartas to increase the number of Shakhas in these areas in order to motivate more youngsters towards the cause of nation building. Once enrolled, the youngsters are also exposed to the core ideology of the RSS in a phased manner in these orientation courses. The senior State ministers were directed to facilitate and extend a helping hand to their parent organisation. According to senior RSS functionaries at present the Sangh is running 279 Shakhas at 187 places in Jammu and Ladakh region on a daily basis. Apart from this, 110 Shakhas are functioning on a weekly basis and 76 Shakhas are functioning on monthly basis. During the closed door meeting detailed discussions were also held on current political scenario emerging in the State. Senior BJP ministers briefed M. G Vaidya on various programmes undertaken by the State unit of BJP to consolidate its grip and make inroads in remote areas.
