BHADARWAH: To remember one of the most decorated soldier in the history of Indian Army, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) based at Bhadarwah celebrated Martyrs Day on the 11th Death Anniversary of Naib Subedar Chunni Lal here on Sunday.
Naib Subedar Chunni Lal, who was a resident of Southa village of Bhadarwah recieved his martyrdom while fighting with infiltrators in Kupwara sector on 24th of June 2007.
The martyred Naib Subedar Chunni Lal of 8th Bn JAKLI was the only soldier who had received Sena Medal, Veer Chakra and Ashok Chakra (Posthumous) simultaneously, was remembered by 4 RR under the aegis of delta force on his Shahedi Divas at Lake View Resort, Gatha in Bhadarwah.
Wreaths were laid on the statue of the martyr. About 50 local ex-servicemen, War veterans and NCC cadets, besides Veer Naris of Bhadarwah tehsil invited on the occasion were made aware about various army sponsored Govt schemes and welfare measures.
Later, Commanding Officer (CO) RR inquired from the families of the martyrs weather they are facing any problem or need any help.
Family of the martyr Chunni Lal was all praise for his courage and termed him a source of inspiration for the young generation.
“I am proud of my son and his achievements as he was the number 1 soldier of Indian army,” said father of martyr soldier, Shankar Dass.
Besides army officers, others who participated in wreath laying ceremony include ASP Bhadarwah Rajinder Singh, Tehsildar Masood Ahmed, Rector Bhadarwah Campus Ghulam Mohd Bhatt, SDPO Touseef Ahmed Rishu, SHO Muneer Khan, Prof Javed Iqbal, Raj Singh Charak and family members of Chunni Lal.
