JAMMU: A former Session Judge was attacked by a group of robbers while loot attempt was foiled in City Chowk area, in the heart of the town on Sunday evening.
“Session Judge (Retd) Shakti Kumar Gupta was attacked by a group of miscreants at City Chowk on Sunday evening while he was on way back to his house after closing the chamber located in Kanak Mandi area,” police said on Wednesday.
They said that the victim, in his complaint had lodged that he was first hit by two motorcycle borne youth following which he fell down, adding, “the miscreants tried to snatch his cell phone and wallet but he caught hold of one of the accused.”
When he raised an alarm, some passersby rushed to the spot but the miscreants managed to give a slip and fled away on their unregistered motorbike, police added.
A case under Sections 511, 279 and 237 of RPC has been registered and manhunt launched to apprehend the absconders.
“The attackers might have opinion that I am carrying cash because Kanak Mandi is traders market and mostly the shopkeepers carry their day cash along with them after closing the shops,” Gupta said.
He said that he had suffered minor injuries but was stable and demanded immediate action against the culprits.
