JAMMU: The Birth of Lord Rama was celebrated as the Festival of Ram Navmi across the State, especially in Jammu region with religious fervor and gaiety.
Since morning, men, women and children offered special prayers at the Shrines including the historical Maha Kali Temple, Bahu Fort and Raghunath Temple.
The morning was dedicated to ‘Kanjak Pujan’ as devotees offered gifts to small girls before visiting Tawi River where they immersed ‘Saankh’ or barley sprouts, thus marking the end of the nine-day long Navratra festival, dedicated to Goddess Durga.
To mark the occasion, an impressive and colourful Rath-Yatra was jointly taken out by Jammu and Kashmir Dharmarth Trust and Raghunath Bazaar Welfare Association, Sanatan Dharma Sabha, Rajput Sabha, Brahaman Sabha, Mahajan Sabha, Khatri Sabha, Raghunath Bazaar Heritage Society and various other social organizations. Earlier, Ram Navmi Rath Yatra Poojan was performed at Shri Raghunath Ji Temple in which the Trustees of J and K Dharmarth Trust Vikramaditya Singh (MLC) and M.K Ajat Shatru Singh (MLC) participated, President of the Trust B.R Kundal, Secretary Ajay Singh Jamwal along with some office bearers was also present on the occasion.
Later, a grand and colourful Yatra was taken out in which thousands of devotees from various parts of the region took part. The procession started from Raghunath Temple and passing through City Chowk, Purani Mandi, Link Road, Jain Bazar, Purani Mandi and City Chowk culminated back at Raghunath Ji Temple. The participants also included prominent citizens, politicians and heads of religious organizations. Various heads of the non-Hindu organisations also accorded a rousing reception to the Yatra enroute.
Tight security arrangements were made across the city for the smooth conduct of celebrations and senior police officers were also presents on the occasion.
Langars were also organised in various places.
