JAMMU: Dr Rakesh Vaid, Professor in the Department of Electronics, University of Jammu, has been nominated as new Head of the Department of Electronics.
Dr Vaid obtained his M.Sc Degree in Electronics from the University of Kashmir with gold medal and Ph.D in Electronics from the University of Jammu. He has more than 26 years of teaching/research experience. He is a senior member of IEEE (USA) and Fellow of IETE (India) besides members of various other professional bodies.
Dr Vaid has more than 100 publications to his credit in national/ international journals and conference proceedings. His area of research include device modeling and simulation, power semiconductor devices, floating islands and trench gate technology, carbon nanotubes and graphene based electronic devices, FinFETs, fabrication and characterization of nano scale CMOS devices and fabrication and characterization of silicon based hybrid solar cell employing high k dielectrics etc.
He has successfully guided three Ph.D and six M.Phil students till date besides four more students are pursuing their Ph.D under him. He has also to his credit a major research project entitled ‘Study of Germanium /III-V compound semiconductors as channel materials for Nanoscale devices’ sponsored by University Grants Commission India besides five medium term projects undertaken under Indian nanoelectronics program sponsored by CEN, IIT Bombay.
Dr Vaid has presented many research papers in various prestigious national/ international conferences with in India and abroad and such as MIEL-2006 (Belgrade), ICMNT-2006 (Algeria), Nano today 2013 (Singapore), MNE 2014 (Lausanne- Switzerland), 227th ECS meeting 2015 (Chicago – USA). Recently he has been invited to present his research paper in the 231st ECS meeting to be held at New Orleans, USA from 28th May to 1st June, 2017. Dr Vaid is also presently serving as Chairman IETE Jammu Centre, Vice Chairman IEEE EDS India chapter and also on the executive body of IEEE EDS Delhi chapter. He has also served Jammu University Teachers Association in the capacity of General Secretary in the year 2013-14.
