By Daya Sagar Although Administration of UT of J&K has formally in 2020 ordered that doctors should as far as possible write prescriptions by generic name / chemical name and also to ensure that no any not needed tests/ investigations are prescribed government has also recently ordered for appointment of prescription audit cells atleast upto sub- district hospital level for daily audit of prescriptions but level still no notable improvement has been observed on ground even in the case of Government Medical College Jammu .Since in general even the government doctors do not prescribe medicines by chemical name many of a few Jan Aushadi Shops even in cities like Jammu are either not open regularly or are short of supplies as has been complained by some patients who out of their self awareness decided to take medicines from JA stores even if prescription is written by chemical name. It was that in response a story ( In Lockdown situation Jan Aushadi Shops can provide some relief to those who are under economic stresses.) carried by State Times Daily on 28-03-2020 that one Sr. citizen Prof Koulfrom Jammu called the writer and conveyed that although he had gathered some awareness via his personal sources still he was not able to make use of even the microscopic number of the notified Jan Aushadhi shops since most of the times when he visits these shops they are either closed or short of stocks. Jan Aushadi shops are supposed to supply the medicines under chemical name / generic name that are marked with MRP as should be fairly labelled with reasonable margin for seller and like some medicines that are so unreasonably labelled with very very unfair MRP like Glimepride2mg+Metformin 500mg + Voblibose 0.2mg Tab is marked with MRP Rs.29/10 tab in Jan Aushadi shop where as same drug sold under a brand name likeGluconorm-VG 2 is marked with MRP Rs.301/15 Tab. Imagines how mercilessly and brutally are some patients suffering from diseases / disorders like diabetes, hypertension are being fleeced. The table below gives the equivalent chemical / generic names for the drugs that are commonly prescribed by many of the doctors by brand name and particularly the people who regularly take medicines can make use of this table for approaching the Jan Aushadi shops whereby they may be able to save 50 to 80%. It is high time for the NGOs/ social activists to come forward to make the government aware of the ground status of JA Shops , make the common man aware of usefulness of JA Shops and request the prescription writers to write prescriptions by chemical name that way in addition to benefitting the common man the JA Shop owners to would find attractive viability of the trade in actual practice. No doubt such job is of BPPI and Health Departments but in case they do not work the Prime Minister Bhartiye Jan AushadiPariyojna can not allowed to get defeated.
