JAMMU: Taking serious note of the deaths of Yatris during ongoing Amarnath Yatra especially on account of health grounds and traffic mismanagement, the workers of Shiv Sena and Dogra Front under the leadership of Ashok Gupta took out a protest rally here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Gupta President of Dogra Front demanded issuing of white paper on the death of 39 Amarnath Yatris. “People have died due to the negligence of the traffic and health departments. In the Yatra of 20 days, 39 people have lost their lives. Are the pilgrims visiting the Amarnath Yatra to die?” Gupta asked while expressing anguish and concern.
Dogra Front and Shiv Sena activists raising slogans during a protest.
“Since last night it has been raining heavily in Ramban due to which the SRTC bus slipped from the road and fell into a gorge killing 11 Yatris and injuring 36. Who is responsible for these deaths as there was no traffic cop on the route to check the condition of the roads”? He asked.
Before the initiation of the Yatra it was assured by the Health Minister and the department that the Yatris shall only be allowed to register after they get the health certificates. The death of 20 Yatris due to heart-attack raise several questions over the functioning of health department”, he said.
He also raised a question that why the Health Minister has not visited the Yatra route even once to check the health facilities for the Yatris.
He said the deaths were avoidable and the authorities cannot escape from their responsibility.
“The increasing numbers of deaths of the Amarnath pilgrims clearly show that the medical facilities being provided to them are inadequate and need reassessment as arrangements shown to be provided are all on papers”, he maintained.
He also demanded that Digital India Campaign launched by the Prime Minister should be a part of the Amarnath Yatra process so that any person sitting in any part of the world can register for the Yatra.
