LEH: After recovering the body of Stanzin Lawang, resident of Markha who had been missing since December, Leh Police claimed that it was a murder and the accused namely Sonam Dorjay, son of Tsewang Dorjay, resident of Chushot said to have confessed before the police to have killed the missing person and throwing off his body somewhere near Agling in the Indus river.
Briefing media persons here, SSP Leh, Sargun Shukla said police received missing information of Stanzin Lawang, resident of Markha on January 22, 2018, from her wife Dechen Zangmo.
“She didn’t know since when he had been missing because her husband was a tour operator,” SSP Leh said, adding that the murder had taken place on December 20 as per the confession of the accused.
Finding of the Aadhaar and ATM details of the missing were indicative of something mysterious and police formed an SIT for further investigation, she added.
According to the police, during the course of search some facts came to fore that lead to the person namely Sonam Dorjay, son of Tsewang Dorjay, resident of Chushot to have used the ATM card of the missing person to withdraw money.
As Sonam was in Jammu, a team was deputed to Jammu to apprehend the suspect and with assistance of District Police Jammu he was apprehended and brought to Leh.
On his disclosure, the ATM card was recovered from Old Bus Stand Leh and accordingly case FIR No. 14/2018 under Sections 406 and 420 RPC was registered at Police Station Leh. A Special investigation Team (SIT) was constituted under the overall supervision of Stanzin Losal Addl. SP Leh to investigate the matter. The accused is under police custody. SSP Leh said that police is extremely satisfied with the professional investigation that has been carried out so far. As of now the accused has reportedly confessed to being the only one to commit the crime but police says it is a matter of further investigation. According to the police, both the victim and the accused were habitual drinkers and they used to drink together and they scuffled as the victim had about Rs 3 lakh in his account.
