JAMMU: National Police Day popularly known as Police Commemoration Day was observed in Jammu Zone with traditional fervour and gaiety.
The day is celebrated every year in the memory and honour of SI Karam Singh and his ten compatriots of CRPF (1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn) who on October 21, 1959, sacrificed their lives while holding the attack by PLA at Hot Spring in Ladakh at the height of 4,681 meters above the sea level.
Impressive functions were organized in all 10 Districts of Jammu Province where large number senior Police Officers, retired police personnel, members of the martyrs’ families and members of civil society participated.
The main function was conducted at Gulshan Ground Jammu where Dr. S.D Singh, IGP Jammu Zone took the salute of the Commemoration Day Parade. GOs of all Jammu based Units, apart from a large number of senior / retired police officers and prominent citizens of Jammu also participated in the function.
IGP Jammu Zone read out the name of 415 these brave martyrs of the country which includes martyrs from Police Organizations and PMF like BSF, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, NCB, NDRF and FS, CD & HG.
While lauding the role of brave martyrs, he said J&K Police has been rendering yeoman service to the nation and the society under most hostile, difficult and challenging circumstances at the cost of their personal safety and comforts. He prayed for the heavenly peace of the departed souls and also for the prosperity and welfare of their families.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh paid rich tributes to all those Martyrs who have laid down their lives for Unity and Integrity of our nation in different parts of the Country during the last one year.
Later, IGP Jammu Zone also interacted with NOK of martyrs. He paid a patient hearing to the grievances of NOKs of Martyrs and assured full support and timely action on the requests submitted by them.
Earlier all the Jammu based GOs assembled at Police Martyrs Memorial at Railway Station where rich tributes were paid to all the martyrs. On this occasion, a blood donation camp was also organized in which many senior Officers and other volunteers including the Jammu team donated the blood.
Among those who attended the function include; IGP Armed Jammu, DIG Jammu -Kathua-Range, SSP Jammu SSP PCR, SSP Security Jammu, SSP CID SB Jammu, Commandant IRP 14, Commandant IRP 18 (Nodel officers) and Commandants of other Jammu based battalions, SP APCR and all GOs of Jammu District, besides Devinder Singh Rana MLA, Romesh Arora MLC and other dignitaries also attended the function.
Moreover, another impressive function was organized again in the evening at Police Martyrs Memorial Railway Station, Jammu where a large number of Police/Civil families assembled to light candles and pay rich tributes to the martyrs of the nation.
A book named ‘Namman” was unveiled by Dr Rubinder Kaur, Chairperson PWWA, Ashok Bhan Retd DGP Prison, Dr. S.D Singh, IGP Jammu Zone, Danish Rana, IGP Armed Jammu Zone /IR, other senior /retired Police officers and family members of Police Martyr’s at Police Martyrs Memorial Railway Station this evening as tributes to the 70 ‘Police Martyrs’ of Jammu District.
