NEW DELHI: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly broadcast Mann Ki Baat has rejuvenated radio and raised its listenership by multiple times. Though in the intervening years, it appeared as if the radio popularity was dwindling, he said, in the last few years, there is not only a visible upsurge in radio’s popularity, but even the generation which has grown up only in the shadow of television, without ever having been exposed to radio, are also now tuning on to radio, at least for such programmes which they find wanting on the television channels.
Dr Jitendra Singh, who was interacting with a delegation of Indian Information Service (IIS) Group ‘A’ Officers, said, the reach of radio is far wider and covering even the remotest parts of peripheral States of Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir. In addition, he said, the authenticity and reliability of the information and news emanating from All India Radio has also gained increasing credibility in the recent times.
In this context, he also referred to the recently inaugurated 10 KW transmitter of All India Radio at Patnitop in Ramban District of Jammu & Kashmir, which will provide services to people living in an aerial radius of 60 kms in the hilly areas.
The delegation of officers led by President IIS Group ‘A’ Officers Association, Anindya Sengupta, discussed with the Minister, a wide range of issues related to the Indian Information Services (IIS) and steps required to strengthen it. They also placed before the Minister, some of the issues related to their services, particularly promotions, which is under the purview of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the priority of the Modi government is to provide a compatible work culture to its employees and several steps have been taken in this direction. Accepting the memorandum submitted by the officers, he assured them that he will direct the concerned officers in the DoPT to find an early resolution of the issues raised by them.
