STATE TIMES NEWSRAJOURI: Govt PG College Rajouri celebrated International Day of Peace at college on Saturday. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the College organized an extensional Lecture on the topic “Path to Sustainable Peace and Development” on this occasion. Dr. Ashaq Malik, Assistant Prof. in Botany of College and Peace activist was resource person who gave a detailed account of history and pertinence of celebrating World Peace Day among world societies since September 21, 1981 and how an individual can contribute in achieving lasting peace in world especially by adopting Mahatma Gandhi’s Philosophy of Nonviolence. He also spoke on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to minimize poverty, hunger, gender inequality and disparity, and change the climate change to achieve Sustainable Development and Peace by 2030 and beyond. While speaking on occasion, Vice Principal of College, Dr. Abdul Qayoom Khan who was also Chief Guest on the occasion, underlined how Quality Education (SDG-4) can play its role in achieving sustainable peace and development at all levels. Earlier, Prof. Zamir Ahmed Mirza, Co-ordinator IQAC, introduced the speaker, welcomed the audience and briefed about the relevance of celebrating World Peace Day at college. Dr. Nazakat Hussain, Head, Department of History also spoke on the occasion and stressed upon the need of communal harmony and brotherhood both within national boundaries and beyond to attain durable peace across globe. Some students also gave feedback and elaborated their (youth’s) role in nation and peacebuilding hence achieving agenda 2030 while thinking globally and acting locally. Prof. Riaz Mirza, member IQAC, presented formal vote of thanks. A large number of students and staff members participated in program. Prominent among others present on the occasion were Dr. Anwar Shah, Prof. Ghulam Abas, Prof. Manzoor A. Dar and Prof. Aasia Bhat and Dr. Hilal Qazi.
