LONE ON LOAN BECOMES ALONE
JAMMU: The man behind the success of Narendra Modi rally in Srinagar finds himself in lurch after having been ‘smartly’ clipped and downsized by the coalition partners PDP and BJP. While the two parties felt elated over the crowd in Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, its architect Sajjad Lone had to literally taste ‘use and throw’ treatment.
Despite being in the list of speakers, compiled by General Administration Department, Sajjad Lone had a rude shock of his life in store when asked to keep sitting. He couldn’t do anything when one after another the PDP and BJP leaders addressed the gathering, mostly comprising his supporters from north Kashmir. The discomfort was writ large on their faces, as their leader felt demoralized and embarrassed.
The fact that Peoples’ Conference with just two legislators managed the huge show, which the 28-member strong PDP could not even think about, unfolds a big question how allies can be ditched and dumped. The BJP, which has no presence in the Valley, except a handful of supporters, became a willing accomplice to humiliate Sajjad Lone. It should not be forgotten that the BJP was projecting him as the next Chief Minister in case it would have emerged as a single largest party. But, equations change with change in times. Today’s hero of the show will be nobody tomorrow. This is the message which has emanated from the handling of Modi rally today. Sajjad Lone knows that he is now a spent force. He has been milked and milked hard by the duo and left to lick his wounds.
The sheen of being Sajjad Lone, a former separatist, was lost the day when he was reluctantly inducted by the Chief Minister in his Council of Ministers. His glitter fell pale after being allotted an insignificant ministry of Animal Husbandry and Science and Technology Departments. The BJP, with huge central patronage, could do nothing. So didn’t Sajjad Lone himself, who only felt obliged to relish whatever given-even if it was left over. That perhaps exposed his political vulnerability. Since he did not react then the PDP-BJP duo felt it convenient today to embarrass him in full gaze of his supporters. They too will start treating him as a spent force.
This being the scenario, one can only imagine the future of Sajjad Lone in PDP led government, which is all set to witness change of guard, possibly on 17th of November, if sources are to be believed. With Mehbooba Mufti in command, one can only wait for Sajjad Lone being cut to size. This is a typical and classical example of ‘use and throw’.
