The arrest of three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists on Thursday show how vulnerable is the India-Pakistan border at Bamyal in Gurdaspur district which neighbours Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir and internationally border with Narowal District of Pakistan. The Bamyal was in news even after Pak-supported terrorists attack on Pathankot air force station which took country by surprise. The Pathankot air base of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was attacked by terrorists, from Pakistan, on January 2, 2016, leaving seven people dead. The area has defence establishments, including the frontier IAF base and the nearby Mamoon Cantt of the Army. Prior to the terrorist attack on the IAF base, three suspected Pakistani terrorists had carried out an attack in Dinanagar town in neighbouring Gurdaspur district on July 27, 2015.The arrested terrorists were ferrying arms and ammunition in a Kashmir registered truck carrying a consignment of empty cartons. With border vigil up the terrorists and their sympathizers are scouting for alternative routes and mode. During checking, a truck, loaded with cardboard material, was intercepted at 8.00 am on the Jammu-Pathankot Highway. The recovered arms and ammunition included four AK-56 rifles, two AK-47 rifles, six magazines and 180 rounds of ammunition, besides a cash of Rs 11,000. All of the terrorists belonged to the Kashmir Valley, he said, adding that the truck was owned by one Suhil Ahmed Latoo of Gulshanabad, Pulwama and was driven by one Javaid Ahmed Dar. They were illegally transporting arms and ammunition to Kashmir from Punjab to “disturb peace in the Valley”. It is believed that all of these suspected militants infiltrated from across the International Border via Bamyal border in Pathankot to the Kashmir Valley with the help of over-ground workers. Terrorists were planning to execute a major terror attack if one believes the sources.
