KATRA: As part of the National Conference on Orchid Science and Commerce, a painting competition on orchids was held for school and university students at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), here Monday.
There was an enthusiastic participation from neighbouring schools, SMVD University students and underprivileged children who are part of the VIKALP initiative of SMVD University.
The competition was adjudged in four categories by an expert panel of judges and three prizes per category were awarded.
The first, second and third prizes were awarded to Vaishnavi Bairwa (DPS Katra), Harshini Wanchoo (DPS Katra) and Akshara Rajput (Holy Trinity Convent, Dansal) in the below 8 years category; Noha Samuel (DPS Katra), Nivedika Kher (DPS Katra) and Sonali Trisal (APS Srinagar) in the 8-16 years category; Isha Dhingra (SALD, SMVDU), Kamaldeep Kour (SOLL, SMVDU) and Akshay Gupta (SALD, SMVDU) in the above 16 years category and amongst the VIKALP students Shashi Kumar, Arun Kumar and Komal Dogra stood first, second and third respectively.
Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. S. K. Jain accompanying dignitaries and delegates appreciated the efforts of the organizing team for creating awareness on orchids at the grass root level.
