SAMBA: In continuation to the drive launched by District Police Samba against drug peddlers/smugglers indulging in illegal trade of drugs, District Police on Saturday achieved a major success in recovering 2 quintal, 19 Kgs and 350 grams poppy straw from one driver who was reportedly smuggling the consignment towards states of North India for its illegal trade/supply among the drug addicted youngsters. The accused has been identified as Ashok Kumar son of Kewal Singh resident of Village Parowal Tehsil Garh Shanker District Hoshiarpur Punjab.
Reports said that police early this morning conducted surprise checking of vehicles at Ghagwal. During checking, police intercepted a Tempo Traveller (PB01-9975) at Ghagwal and nabbed driver of the said vehicle namely Ashok Kumar. During search they recovered 2 quintal, 19 kgs and 350 grams of poppy straw (Bhukki) from the said vehicle which was hidden in the false ceiling created in it. A case under FIR No. 20/2016 section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered with Police Station Ghagwal.
