STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Director of Industries and Commerce Department Jammu, Anoo Malhotra on Wednesday inaugurated an orientation programme on ‘Plastic Waste Management’ here. Leading industrialists of Jammu district primarily dealing with plastic items were sensitised about role of UNDP in plastic waste management. During the programme, a presentation on UNDP project ‘Plastic Waste Management Programme’ in Jammu region was given by Sanjeev Arora, CEO, Regional and Urban Development Agency. Ankush Varma, Assistant Director Regional and Urban Development Agency informed about sustainable development goals and status of plastic waste in Jammu region. He focused on use of digital Apps by stakeholders such as waste-pickers, recyclers, ULBs and citizens for integrating everyone into a digital cloud. All the stakeholders pledged that dry wastes will not be burnt in open and the plastic waste would not be sold to informal aggregators. Earlier, Mohammad Ameen, Consultant UNDP India briefed the audience about the importance of plastic waste management programme initiated by UNDP in Jammu. Anoo Malhotra requested all stakeholders to collaborate with the agency so that plastic disposable model of the industrial estates of Jammu region emerges to be the best in the country. She further directed for organising such orientation programme in all other districts. Rattan Dogra, Chairman, Federation of Industries Jammu asked for framing the Do’s and Dont’s for industrial units so that wider publicity can be ensured. Designated area and modalities were discussed on ways by which waste can be segregated in the industrial estates. The vote of thanks was presented by Director I&C, Jammu, Anoo Malhotra.
