Are they oppressed, as a section of Indian civil society, ‘sickularists’, so-called Kashmiri mainstream parasites and self-styled intellectuals and media ‘giants’ of the Valley made the world to believe? Are they misguided, as many across the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, believe them to be?
All these civil society activists, sickularists, mainstream leeches, media concessionists, the ostrich like politicians and the Prime Minister better watch the video, filmed and uploaded on social media by teenage boys themselves on Sunday. The video shows a group of paid ruffians targeting the CRPF personnel as they return from carrying out their duty in Budgam district. Despite having weapons, the CRPF jawan showed the utmost restraint and chose to stay silent while walking down the street filled with the slogan-shouting mob. The radical rogues and coward street urchins can be seen slapping and kicking the jawan, who had a rifle in hand, in an attempt to evoke a sharp reaction from him, but to no avail.
A straight question is posed to terror apologists as to what should have been the response of the security personnel, humiliated and heckled, by radicals. Had such an incident occurred in any other country, the attackers would have been fired straight at their chests. But the story is different in ‘democratic, secular’ India where saviours have no human rights but the tormentors have.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi should give a thought to the scenario prevailing in Kashmir after he took over the reins of the government. Every radical stands emboldened and every security personnel is marginalized. He should understand that it is not the jawan who is heckled but it is his nation that is mutilated and bruised every day.
The viral video reminds of the 2016 unrest and stands testimony to the most brutal face of radicalised Kashmir. Instead of marginalizing these indoctrinated and paid youth, the government at the Centre and in the State is rewarding them. Ironically, both the governments are partnered by the BJP which have failed in upholding the honour and dignity of valiant soldiers and officers in the Valley.
Last summer, the paid stone-pelters injured 3,537 police personnel and 556 CRPF jawans across the Valley. During crucial five months of anarchy, when the PDP-BJP Government remained parked within the precincts of Civil Secretariat or at large in Jammu, 131 structures, including police stations and schools, were damaged in mob violence. The 2016 summer and the current violence amid the bypolls are darkest phase of anti-India campaign in the Valley during the past twenty seven years. Though the government registered 2,602 FIRs against anti-national elements and arrested 5,084 persons last year, the Chief Minister asked her administration to review the cases of stone-pelters, violence mongers who took over the command of the Valley for nearly 150 days.
This is not for the first time when the Kashmir centric government had announced review of cases pertaining to anti-national stone pelters. Earlier in 2010, similar strategy was adopted by the NC-Congress government thus incentivizing soft terror in the form of stone pelting or Intifada. Because of concessions and sops, the stone-pelting industry is thriving across Kashmir. Now it has taken uglier dimensions with paid agents even obstructing anti-terror operations by engaging the forces in skirmishes to facilitate terrorists flee from their trapped hideouts.
The Prime Minister, who described rebel rousers of Kashmir as misguided youth, who must understand that stone pelting has been glamourised in the Valley to such an extent that a few computer savvy amongst the pelters and their invisible supporters are bragging their heroism on social media by showcasing pitiable condition of the Indian armed forces and the State Police. People have not forgotten the Facebook accounts- ‘I am a stone pelter’; ‘Kashmir-the Intifada’ etcetera.
Apart from taking pride in their ‘misadventure’ of humiliating the armed forces, the Over Ground Workers and supporters of the stone-pelters have unleashed a sinister campaign on social networking sites like Facebook and YouTube by disseminating selective videos and pictures to hoodwink and mislead the world opinion against India. The ploy of course is to portray Kashmir as a disturbed area, if not a terror struck region. Terrorism is a red rag for the US and West- front runners in global war against terrorism. Therefore, Pakistan and its infamous ISI had substituted guns by stones so as to keep Kashmir boiling. The ploy worked. Stone pelting drew attention across the world. According to B. Raman, a former head of counter-terrorism for India’s intelligence service, “What we are witnessing in certain areas of Jammu and Kashmir is the beginning of an Intifada.” Intifada, an Arabic word literally meaning “shaking off”, though popularly translated into English as uprising, resistance or rebellion. It is often used as a term for popular resistance to oppression.
Syed Ali Geelani has publicly supported stone-pelting, saying this sort of protest is even being carried out in Europe as well. He has been terming it as anger and hate of Kashmiri youth for uniformed security and police personnel. The so-called mainstream Farooq Abdullah too has eulogized stone-pelters as the ‘youth fighting for their nation’.
This has not been only encouragement to street urchins but provocation too. Narendra Modi better revisit his approach towards Kashmir before it is too late.
