SRINAGAR: Omar Abdullah, MLA and former Chief Minister, called on Governor N.N Vohra here on Wednesday.
Omar Abdullah apprised the Governor about his views regarding the obtaining law and order, education and development scenario in the State. The Governor discussed with Abdullah the measures required to be taken at this juncture and particularly urged that all political, religious and society leaders must closely join hands to secure the restoration of peace and normalcy and especially ensure against the academic interests of students being adversely affected in any manner whatsoever.
Meanwhile, Dr. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir also met the Governor and informed him about the functioning of the university and also briefed him about the supplementary shifts for post graduate programmes which are underway.
The Governor drew the VC’s attention to his role and responsibility of taking all required initiatives to ensure against the career interests of the over 70,000 strong community of college students being adversely effected in any manner. The Governor also reiterated the importance of the teachers and students maintaining a sharp and sustained focus on teaching, research and academic activities, and dispelling all factors and influences which thwart their scholastic objectives.
Later, Vijay Dhar, Member Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) met the Governor and discussed a number of issues regarding the on-going preparations for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra, particularly the steps required to be taken for ensuring the safety and security of the pilgrims and the service providers.
