STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Dogri Theatre Festival took off at Abhinav Theatre here on Friday. The theatre extravaganza will provide a treat for theatre lovers of the region with presentation of a variety of plays in Dogri. Organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) Patiala in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, the festival will conclude on March 24. Giving details, Secretary JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajini said that during the festival, which is purely dedicated to Dogri language and culture, eight plays will be staged. “During annual drama festival in Jammu, it was observed that out of 22 plays, only two were in Dogri language. Therefore, a need was felt for hosting language-based festivals,” Dr Hajini said. In this backdrop, it was thought expedient to hold theatre festivals in Dogri and Kashmiri languages, he added. As per Secretary JKAACL, a theatre festival in Kashmiri will also begin at Tagore Hall Srinagar on 20th of this month.
