Dear Editor, While the number of vehicles are increasing everyday in the city, mismanagement and lack of proper parking space is creating havoc on the city roads. The non-availability of authorised parking space in the City of Temples is forcing locals to park vehicles along the roadside thus leading to accidents and frequent traffic jams. As per reports, Jammu has entered into the danger zone in context with the rising traffic but despite that the concerned authorities have not yet taken the threat seriously and have found no concrete solution to the problem, which is soon going to choke the city roads. An average 10 to 15 new vehicles are daily adding to the traffic in the city but government has failed in constructing authorized parking space to reduce the traffic mess. Illegal parking in various parts of the city is creating traffic chaos and the ever-increasing number of vehicles coupled with limited road infrastructure and paucity of parking space has played havoc with traffic management, especially in the old city. Traffic congestions in old Jammu city have become a common scene these days. It can be seen anywhere on the shrinking city roads. With available road network in city to take up the ever increasing vehicle population, traffic jams have become order of the day. It is sad that ever since the city started expanding, not even a single attempt was made to control the congestions of these areas of Jammu City. According to legal authentications the buildings, shopping complex, shops of immense and throbbing brands which target the youth of the Jammu city must have their own parking spaces. Since there is no specified parking meant for the customers in these shopping centers, the roads are serving the purpose. The need of the hour is that the concerned authorities should work and prepare a plan to manage traffic problem in city and should consult the residents in finding a proper solution to the problem.
