India has made its position clear calling no third party role in Kashmir to US President Donald Trump’s offer for mediation in peace talks to settle Kashmir issue. India always believed in resolving disputes bilaterally, peacefully in accordance with the Simla Agreement and Lahore Declaration and never sought any third party intervention. Few years back UK Parliament held a debate on Kashmir, led by David Nuttall (Conservative) along with Nusrat Ghani (Conservative), Robert Flello (Labour) and Fiona Mactaggart (Labour). This debate was determined by the Backbench Business Committee following an application from David Nuttall. The motion of the debate said, “That this House notes the escalation in violence and breaches of international human rights on the Indian side of the Line of Control in Kashmir; calls on the government to raise the matter at the United Nations; and further calls on the government to encourage Pakistan and India to commence peace negotiations to establish a long term solution on the future governance of Kashmir. Britain should not intervene in the internal politics of any sovereign nation. So it leaves no room for third party mediation as the issue is purely bilateral and there is no third party as the stake holder of Kashmir. If Pakistan is trying to garner support by roping in other countries the situation is not going to change any further. The Kashmir issue has its origin from the day of accession of Jammu and Kashmir with Indian Union by the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990 as part of ethnic cleansing followed by Pak supported terrorists and to some extent Islamisation of the state by government of the day. As a democratic country UK do discuss the situation and development taking place in other countries. But it should understand that here it is between India and Pakistan. When it’s a known fact by the international communities, that our neighbour harbours all types of terror acts and they have been promoting. Our neighbour must first keep its home clean and stop exporting terror to other countries. Most of the European and Russian states have stood with India terming Kashmir as an India’s internal issue and has keptaway from the mediation role then why is US keen on having the third party role, is a bit intriguing.
