STATE TIMES NEWS LEH: New Ladakhi Girls (NLG), an NGO on Monday organised a workshop on Sustainable and Healthy Menstruation here. The workshop was organised in collaboration with the Snow Leopard Conservancy-India Trust and Ladakh Media and Arts Organization (LAMO). Two Siddhartha High School Graduates, Stanzin Angmo and Tsewang Chuskit, currently studying in Smith and Bennington College respectively in United States, started ‘New Ladakhi Girls’ NGO in 2015 with an aim to educate and empower socially and economically marginalised population of Ladakh, especially women about health and social issues. A number of student, teachers, girls representing various section of the society attended the workshop, during which a number of ideas were exchanged among womenfolk. Various speakers emphasized upon open-mind discussion to remove prevalent myth and taboos. “NLG is planning to distribute menstrual cloth-pads and menstrual cups in Zanskar and Changthang to spread awareness on impact of disposable pads on environment considering increasing pollution due to tourism and modernisation besides lack of proper waste management system,” they added.
