JAMMU: Navneet Kour, daughter of Pervinder Singh and Tajvinder Kour got best paper presentation award in oral category at National Conference on Materials for Sustainable Development and New Technology (MSDNT) held at Central University of Jammu.
The award was presented to her by Vice Chancellor, Dr Ashok Aima which carries a Certificate of Excellence, memento and a cash prize of Rs 1,000.
The paper entitled Karonda fruit: A source against lung cancer cells discussed about anticancer potential of Karonda from Kandi belt of Jammu region. The paper displayed in vitro anticancer potential of fruit against six human cancer cells from six different tissues like breast, colon lung, ovary, prostate etc. The paper gave solution to the selection of this minor fruit for further pharmacological analysis and clarified that active molecules from this natural product will offer new drugs from natural resources to provide great service/promise to lung cancer patients. The author suggested that people should encourage the consumption of Karonda so as to avoid the risk of lung cancer.
Presently, Navneet is pursuing Ph.D in the Division of Biochemistry, Faculty of Basic Sciences, under the supervision of Dr. Vikas Sharma.
