The announcement made by way of budget speech by the Govt of the day, in respect of health insurance
is truly commendable. Undoubtedly,
A great leap the country has taken from a state of inertia to a State that
means business and works for wellness of all.
In a wellbeing society the introduction of such a social security measure was long over due, but unfortunately due to lack of awareness, exposures and will on the part of earlier regimes that did not allow to translate into reality. A saying that… all good things take its time and ordained by the Almighty. Yes- those who are induced by HIM and made this to happen deserve credit for being instruments in such action.
However, there are some disturbing reports too about the misuse/ undue favour being directed for corporates of pharmaceutical companies, doctors, hospital authorities, even the insurance coys for the reasons that this measure will open the door for dishonesty/ corruption/ unethical means on implementation of the schemes.
For them, let us ponder over: We are blessed because; We possess; we have; Yes- can feed self, others and are not dependents.
However, the reality too is: We also have those who are less privileged / blessed , say those who are not in Central / State Govt service/ Public Service Undertakings/ politicians / MLA/ MPs./ other sections. ……… And, they genuinely crave for benefit of above measure by way of our sympathy and support, at times to tide over difficult times due to rising cost of medical care for serious ailments.
True….Our society is infected with moral evils , and we all are engrossed in tackling problems on many counts. ..like; Corruption and Honesty; Vice and Virtue, Evil and Good… know. These are imbibed in human behaviour since ages; presently witnessing; will be in future too.
But, righteousness has always triumphed ultimately.
And there are people who work openly for this cause and also those behind the scene as part of solution. We exist because of them!
Coming to specific concern…. Ways and means have to be found to monetise the same. There are more operational and technical issue, misuse can be firmly controlled by exercising high level of transparency, mainting strict vigilance, inculcating ethical practices by doctors/hospitals, adhering to properly formulated policies, which, will govern costs and rates of treatment services. Transparency through electronic / digital data will end the malpractices of any sort.
Even, there is to be a consideration of viability aspect too (to avoid misuse) reasonable premium can be charged for the same, which should be partially subsidised by both Central and State Govts. Life after 60 is simple and can be taken care by medication etc…not necessarily by hospitalisation only. We wish it be so. But it is not simplifier in all cases.
Importantly, there is need to streamline everything including the cost of the interventional procedures, service charges, medicines and the consumables. At present there is gross difference in the retail prices of same medicine manufactured or marketed from different houses. The rectification of these flaws can help the needy. Treatment must become affordable.
Where there is a will, there is a way.
On my part, I have been taking this issue since 21 Oct 2013 through various forum including appeal to PM. Let us work for the service of mankind in good faith and whole heartedly without allowing room for despair and exercise full vigilance, raise cry against those who are bent upon to work as evils in society. Wishing successful implementation of scheme.
