JAMMU: A society that forgets its martyrs will itself be forgotten one day. We are indebted to those martyrs who laid down their lives for ours and our families’ future. These were the words of speakers who paid floral tributes to Martyr Major Akash Singh during a function which was organised by the Team Jammu.
Jammu today paid tributes to Major Akash Singh, a recipient of Shaurya Chakra, who attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists during an encounter on Line of Control in Poonch district on Sep 9, 2009.
Hundreds of people including students from various schools from different parts of city assembled at Rajpura Mangotrian Park today to remember sacrifice of the martyr for the country. Locals including the family of the martyred officer paid floral tributes on his ninth death anniversary.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar was the Chief Guest while SSP Jammu, Vivek Gupta and Colonel Ravinder Singh were Guests of Honor. In their respective addresses, they appealed to people that always remember the sacrifices of martyred soldiers.
Chairman of Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal who presided over the function said that people should not forget the days when our soldiers gave their lives while guarding borders for nation’s safety.
“Nation will forever remain indebted to soldiers like MajorAkash Singh who fought valiantly, upheld highest traditions of our armed forces and nation,” he added and recalled martyr Major Akash Singh as a brave man who always wanted to be in the army and serve the country.
Major Akash Memorial Park Committee, President, Dr Om Parkash, Secretary General Subedar Major (Retd) Mangal Sharma, Ex-Corporators, Manmohan Singh Manhas, Uttam Singh Chib and social activists, Chandan Datta and Rakesh Mishra, in their brief addresses stated, “Today Major Akash Singh, recipient of Shaurya Chakra, is not with us, but he will always remain alive in the hearts and a role model for younger generation.”
Among others who paid tributes to Major Akash Singh included his wife Deepti Sambyal, Khushi (daughter) Tejas (son), Rajeshwar Singh (brother) Dr. Jagdev Singh (brother), Vikas Singh (brother) and students of Dr B R Ambedkar Convent High School, Devan Devi Higher Secondary School, Shakti Nagar- Rajpura, Raj Kumar, Surinder Sharma, Gohar Farooq, Sahil Mushtaq, Vishu Sharma, Rinku Jatt, Aastik Kohli, Sunil Raipuria, Akshay Gupta, Sardar, Kulvinder Singh, Sardar Ranjeet Singh and Sardar Tarlok Singh.
