New Delhi:- Police have arrested a murder accused, who had jumped his parole and was carrying a reward of Rs one lakh, after a brief exchange of fire from Central Delhi area.
Chandrajeet Kumar fired at a police team of Crime Branch that tried to capture him near a bus stand close to Pragati Power Station, where he was tipped to meet his associates, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).
Police returned the fire and later overpowered Kumar. A US-made pistol and a stolen motor cycle were recovered from him, the police officer said.
Kumar had jumped parole in a murder case and a reward of Rs one lakh was declared on his arrest.
In 2007, Kumar was arrested in the murder case. He had come out of jail on a four-day parole on April 26 but did not surrender before the jail authorities after completion of the parole period, said the officer.
While on the run, Kumar was allegedly engaged in smuggling illegal firearms from Munger in Bihar to Delhi and NCR region, the officer added.
