SHOPIAN: The District Development Commissioner Shopian, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri on Saturday visited the Heerpora area of district and took stock of ongoing work for re-opening the snowbound Mughal road. He was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Executive Engineer Mughal Road Division Shopian and Executive Engineer Mechanical Division Shopian.
The DDC was apprised that men and machinery has been geared up for snow clearance on historic Mughal Road. He directed the concerned officers to expedite the process of snow clearance so that the road can be thrown open for traffic at an earliest. It was said that the road is expected to be made functional within next 15 days.
The opening of the Mughal Road would provide alternate connectivity to the Kashmir valley with Jammu region as the commuters are subjected to lot of hardships due to frequent closure of the existing Srinagar-Jammu highway.
Pertinent to mention that, the tunnel on Mughal Road from Chatta Pani to Zazinar stands approved and its completion would reduce the distance by 28 Kms and making it an all weather road.
