BHADARWAH: In a tragic incident, a 52-year-old woman and her son were killed and seven others got injured, four of them seriously in a road accident on Bhadarwah-Chamba interstate road near Bhadarwah in district Doda on Wednesday.
According to eyewitnesses, Maana Daie (52)and her son Mukesh (26) were killed and seven others were injured when the van they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Khanni Top on Bhadarwah-Chamba Road, 24 km from Bhadarwah town.
According to reports, the Maruti Omni van bearing registration number JK06A-1698 was on its way from Bhadarwah to famous tourist destinations Padri Meadow on Bhadarwah-Chamba interstate road carrying nine passengers including a driver. On reaching Khanni Top, the driver reportedly lost control on a sharp curve and the vehicle fell 200 feet deep gorge.
When contacted ASP Bhadarwah Rajinder Singh said that as soon as he came to know about the accident, a police party under the supervision of SDPO Bhadarwah Touseef Rishu rushed to the spot and along with locals of Thanhala village started rescue operation and within one hour, all the nine persons were brought to the road.
“Meanwhile two ambulances from Sub District Hospital Bhadarwah reached the spot and all of them were shifted to the hospital, where doctors declared two of them as brought dead,” ASP added saying that a requisition by district administration for chopper to shift the four seriously injured has already been forwarded to the concerned authorities.
The deceased have been identified as Maana Daie (52)wife of Narayan Singh and her 26 year old son Mukesh Kumar resident of Chattra Bhaderwah.
The injured have been identified as Manju Devi (35) wife of Surinder Singh her two sons Krish Raina (11) and Harish Raina (14) resident of Round Domail Udhampur, Shiv Devi (55) wife of Bhawani Das, her two sons Ranjeet Kumar (26) and Satish Kumar (17) residents of Tangorna-Chattra and Priya Devi daughter of Surinder Singh resident of Mathola.
Subsequently, three seriously injured Priya Devi, Ranjeet Singh and Satish Kumar were shifted to GMC Jammu through two army choppers.
