RAMBAN: MGNREGA employees under the banner of All J&K MGNREGA Employees Association assembled at ACD office Kohbagh and held a protest against government for failing to frame a legitimate job policy for them.
The protesting employees said that their strike has been extended for 48 hours in all the districts till the demand of framing a legitimate job policy in favour of MGNREGA employees fulfilled.
Association District President Ashfaq Ahmed Malik said that MGNREGA is India’s flagship programme run by thousands of qualified youth but till date government is not serious to secure the future of such employees.
He further said that recently government framed a job policy for regularising the services of all contractual, consolidated, casual and daily rated workers working in various departments but it is very unfortunate that MGNREGA employees were totally ignored.
He maintained that government has always betrayed them and added that few months back they called off the protest only on the assurance that their demand will be fulfilled.
He threatened that if the government failed to do anything this time, they would intensify their strike in coming days and will launch mega protest throughout the state.
