STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: BJP State General Secretary, Yudhvir Sethi on Thursday asked the State administration to identify parking-lots in Old City, construct new ones besides making existing-ones affordable in place of harassing people by lifting their vehicles from anywhere. He said that in absence of adequate parking lots and expensive parking-fee at present slots, people, especially shopkeepers, are suffering a lot. In this connection, a deputation of Presidents of various Bazaar Associations of Old City comprising Sandeep Gupta ex Vice-President, Manish Sabarwal ex-General Secretary, Ramesh Mahajan ex-President, Dinesh Gupta ex-Chairman, Nitin Gupta, Sunil Gupta General Secretary, Vimal Gupta President and Arjun Malhotra called on Sethi and expressed concern over lifting of parking slots from along Women College Parade and outside Geeta Mandir area. Sethi gave a patient hearing to the deputation and accordingly asked the administration to help citizens and not to create chaos in the city, which is already marred with traffic congestion. “Government should make parking charges affordable by bringing them to Rs 10 and Rs 5 for four and two wheelers, respectively,” he said, adding that people have to hop from one place to another in a day and paying hefty amount, again and again, for parking pinches them. Since parking is not a luxury but a facility, it should be made free or affordable for providing relief to people, he added. Earlier, Yudhvir Sethi along with Presidents of Bazaar Associations met Mayor and SSP Traffic and apprised them of problems being faced by commuters in absence of adequate parking spaces and increased parking charges.
